Happy birthday to me. 50 revolutions around the sun seems like a good reason to celebrate with the surprise release of a new album. Mountain Time’s Dream Homes is one of the longer labors of love of my life. You can hear a preview of every song on the album and read what some peers/artists/humans I admire have to say about at the link in the bio. You’ll also get an instant download of the album when you order the vinyl at Spartan Records today, and the first 200 copies will receive a free handwritten lyric book filled with my original collage artwork.
After 30 plus years of doing this work I can honestly say that each album I manage to finish feels like a coup, like wrestling something out of the ether, out of nothingness, and bringing it into being. This work can often appear (and feel) very self-absorbed, and as such I want to thank my beautiful wife and children for enduring and encouraging me throughout, and Seth Woods and Alex Dupree for anchoring and amplifying my visions/songs with their incredible co-production (and indelible friendship). I am extremely gratified to have had so many friends and collaborators with me in the trenches, and am maybe more proud of this record than anything I’ve done before. But at the end of the day art is as much about connection as it is about expression and I am most of all grateful for the opportunity to set it free and let it fly. Much love to John Frazier at Spartan for being there throughout and shepherding this project along. Over the next few weeks we’ll be sharing some music videos and singles from the record and look forward to seeing where these little song-birds take us, and how we might make this world a home more hospitable to all of our dreams.
Music For Looking Animals is available everywhere now! Listen now at digital outlets everywhere here or pick up a copy of the album on limited edition vinyl or with a t-shirt at Spartan Records here. It feels surreal to say that. When I started working on it in the Spring of 2015, I had no way of knowing how long it would take to get it here. To me it is more a record than a collection of songs, so everything that has happened before this is icing on the cake. I hope you all are hungry. I hope you find something here you need. A joy or a distraction. Some comfort or some healing. I love being able to share it with you in full.
To celebrate the release, we’re premiering the new music video for “Rosemary, Etc.” that was directed by my dear friend Tim Kasher (of Cursive / The Good Life). Watch it above.
